Good news for lovers of nature and soft mobility! The first phase of work to widen the famous greenway on the west bank of Lake Annecy was inaugurated in Sevrier on Thursday 17 April 2025. This new development, between the Promenade du Fartot and the Chemin du Crêt Saint-Martin, marks an important stage in the redevelopment of this exceptional living environment.
A wider, more comfortable, more sustainable greenway
Launched in December 2024, the first phase of the project has widened the cycle path from 3 to 5 metres, while adding around 1.3 km of dedicated pedestrian walkway. This dual arrangement means that cyclists, runners and walkers can now share the path more smoothly and safely.
But above and beyond the comfort, the project also reflects a genuine concern for the environment. The existing trees have been preserved as far as possible, and some twenty new plantations have compensated for the inevitable felling of trees. The surfacing used is based on a plant-based binder, which is more respectful of the environment and reduces heat in summer. A shoulder reinforced with lime has even been designed on the lake side for the comfort of runners and durability against run-off.
A key investment for the region
The project, managed by the Syndicat mixte du lac d'Annecy (Sila), represents an investment of €1.6 million, 50% of which is being co-financed by the Haute-Savoie département. And this is just the beginning! This vast project will eventually involve the development of 15.3 kilometres of greenway between Sevrier and Doussard, over a period of 8 years.
Innovations will be introduced to enhance the user experience, including the installation of totems providing real-time information on visitor numbers, and the creation of service areas. The aim is clear: to make this greenway a model of soft mobility, serving local residents and visitors alike.
An undeniable asset to the quality of life in Annecy
For future buyers or investors, these developments represent much more than just a building site: they enhance the attractiveness of the entire western sector of the lake. The proximity of quality infrastructure, in direct contact with nature, is a strong argument in an already highly sought-after property market.
Greater Annecy is fully involved in this project, providing funding to the tune of €1.615 million and building safe links between the Voie verte and the rest of the cycle network. A real network is being put in place, enhancing the quality of life of local residents.
In short: a preserved quality of life, easier travel and a more attractive area to live and work... so many more reasons to set up home or invest in Annecy and the surrounding area.
